Can You Tell the Difference in How ISIS and Mohammed Behaved?

Executive Summary

  • ISIS performed horrific acts in its fighting in Iraq.
  • But how similar is what ISIS did to what Mohammed did in the 7th century?

Introduction

The idea promoted by CNN and most major media is that ISIS has “nothing to do with Islam.” Obama also stated that ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. However, ISIS points to specific quotations in the Koran and Hadiths, but what is presented is that this is a “misinterpretation of Islam.”

In this article, we will compare the behaviors of ISIS versus Mohammed. We do this because there is one thing that all Muslims agree upon, which is that Mohammed was the perfect Muslim, and it is blasphemy to question anything that Mohammed did in his life.

Direct quote from ISIS leaders.

We offer them (non-Muslims) three choices: Islam; the dhimma contract – involving payment of jizya; if they refuse this they will have nothing but the sword”, ISIL said. ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi further noted that Christians who do not agree with those terms must “leave the borders of the Islamic Caliphate” within a specified deadline. ISIL had already set similar rules for Christians in Raqqa, once one of Syria’s more liberal cities. However, on 29 March 2016, ISIL issued a decree preventing Christians and Armenians from leaving Raqqa.

The persecution of Yazidis has been labelled a genocide. This religious sect has been subjected to massacres, forced conversion, forced exile, rape, torture, slavery, sexual slavery, and forced conscription. There have been numerous massacres in attacks on Yazidi villages. In many of the massacres, militants separate the men from the women. Afterward, the men are lined up at checkpoints along the side of the road, shot, and bulldozed into mass graves. Sometimes, men are also given the option of converting to Islam or being executed, so there have been many instances of both forced conversions and killings for refusal to convert to ISIL’s version of Islam.

Yazidi women and children captives are often raped by multiple men, typically friends of their captors. They believe that if a woman is raped by ten ISIL fighters, she will become Muslim. – Wikipedia

Conclusion

Muslims and non-Muslims propose that ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. This is an odd contention and seems to not be cognizant of the true history of Islam. ISIS, which is supposedly a perversion of Islam, happens to be a direct copy of how Mohammed was so successful in spreading Islam in the 7th century, and how those that followed him spread Islam far beyond Arabia. Islam provides an incentive system to continue the spread of Islam.

ISIS followed the playbook laid out by Mohammed which he used himself, and which was first spread orally, and then eventually codified in the Koran and the Hadith(s). In fact, this is ISIS’ response to those that say their interpretation of Islam is incorrect.

In its digital magazine Dabiq, ISIL explicitly claimed religious justification for enslaving Yazidi women. According to The Wall Street Journal, ISIL appeals to apocalyptic beliefs and claims “justification by a Hadith that they interpret as portraying the revival of slavery as a precursor to the end of the world”. ISIL appeals to the hadith and Quran when claiming the right to enslave and rape captive non-Muslim women. According to Dabiq, “enslaving the families of the kuffar and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of the Sharia’s that if one were to deny or mock, he would be denying or mocking the verses of the Quran and the narration of the Prophet … and thereby apostatizing from Islam.” – Wikipedia

ISIS is correct. All of these things are supported by the Koran or Hadith. The people whitewashing Islamic documents are those claiming ISIS is misinterpreting the documentation or what Mohammed said. One can critique what ISIS does, and hopefully one does, however, one cannot say that anything ISIS does is not Islam.
