What are Resource Calendars?

The resource calendar defines the uptime for a resource. This can be found by selecting the resource view.

This will bring up the resource view below. First, we have to select a resource, which will be in one of the tabs. See this article to read more about resource types. Each of the resource types models different kinds of resources, and different modules in APO use various kinds of resources:

The resource calendar can be by selecting the capacity profile button at the top of the screen. This will bring up the following view.

Notice that while I am in change mode in the transaction, going in and changing the individual capacities is not an option (no white boxes). However, what I can do is turn off workdays. That is, I can adjust the calendar in this view. Something else should be noted as well.

Capacity Profile Main View

If I close the Capacity Profile and go back to the main view:

I can change the capacity or the utilization rate, or the start or end date or the break duration. However, I cannot change this for a day. Whatever change I make at this “header” level applies to all the days in the calendar. Some companies propose a requirement to have the ability to set different capacities for the resource per day, but that is not functionality that is supported in SAP ERP or APO.

Changing Calendars in SAP APO

Something to note is that a change in SAP APO to a resource will not be brought back into ERP. Therefore, if resources are to be maintained in APO, then it is necessary not to bring over new resource information from ERP, and also important not to allow the CIF to overwrite the resource information kept in APO.

For instance, you can control whether new resources are brought over int APO by selecting whether to pull in PPMs or PDSs (which also bring over the work center or resource) in the CIF as shown in the view below:
