Introduction

Most patients usually implicitly trust a well-known cancer center or cancer hospital. However, how effective are the treatments provided by the Taussig Cancer Center?

The Issues With Ratings and Rankings for Hospitals

US News and World Report have the best-known ranking of hospitals in the US.

While many people read the US News ranking, far fewer read their methodology. This methodology can be found in US News and World Report Methodology 2022-23 Best Hospitals: Specialty Rankings.

We analyzed this methodology and concluded that the US News and World Report ranking is not directed towards outcomes as much as it is directed towards the prestige of the cancer centers. They also do not include the costs of treatment in their analysis. Essentially US News and World Report are proposing that the wealthy can receive quality cancer treatment. Still, the middle-class person and below can not afford any of the top-rated cancer centers. Luckily for the non-wealthy, the US News and World Report ranking of hospitals as cancer centers within hospitals have little validity.

The Issue With the Standard Cancer Treatments

All of the websites of the different cancer centers make a big deal about how innovative they are and how high the satisfaction of their patients is.

However, here is what these cancer centers will not tell you.

Topic #1: The Overall Rate of Cancer Continues to Rise

Outside of lung cancer, which has declined due to the reduction in smoking, which is prevention rather than treatment-related, cancer rates are not improving. This is covered in the article Why Are Cancer Rates So Different Around The World?

Cancer rates are far higher in the developed world. And even though the most important reduction in cancer came from prevention (smoking), the medical establishment has exceedingly little focus on cancer prevention. The vast majority of the funding and focus goes to expensive treatments.

It is clear from looking at cancer rates in different countries, and different categories of countries that cancer is a lifestyle disease covered in the article Is Cancer a Lifestyle Disease, with genetics representing perhaps 3% of what causes a person to get cancer.

Establishment and prestigious cancer centers don’t explain that most cancers are preventable. Cancer centers are about selling expensive treatments; they are not about either prevention or using treatments that the more effective rather than treatments that make the most money for cancer centers.

This leads to the next topic.

Topic #2: Cancer is a Function of a Malfunctioning Immune System

This is explained on our subscription website, but it is something cancer centers do not explain again. And after reviewing the websites of all the major center centers, we found virtually no focus on the immune system unless it intersects with expensive immunological treatments.

We cover the effectiveness of chemotherapy in the article How Effective is Chemotherapy, the effectiveness of radiotherapy, and How Effective is Radiotherapy.

We learned from our research on these and more treatments that the medical establishment exaggerates the actual effectiveness of the standard treatments. This gets into a broader topic we cover in the article The Problem With the Medical Establishment’s Advice on Cancer?

About Estimating the Quality of Cancer Centers Like the Taussig Cancer Center

An insufficient effort goes into analyzing the quality of cancer centers. There is a major problem rating hospitals for cancer treatment when so many of their treatments are so low in effectiveness. Establishment media entities like US News and World Report that are naturally aligned with establishment medicine assume the standard cancer treatments are effective and then try to rank hospitals under this assumption without evaluating the research into the effectiveness of the treatments being offered and performed by these hospitals.

All of these limitations in cancer patients finding unbiased information on cancer centers is why we provide customized analysis of cancer centers for cancer patients.

There are no independent rankings of cancer centers. We cover the issues around trying to determine cancer center quality.
