How to Understand If SAP’s Relentless HANA Push Paid Off?
ByPrimary Researcher April 2, 2016May 19, 2021

… Maintaining master data (Which so often leads to SAP systems being used less than optimally.)

Some of these items were added to the video I created on the adoption of HANA by customers.

In Defense of SAP HANA
If a person from SAP or who worked for a SAP consulting partner were to comment on this post, they would most likely say a world of difference when HANA is added to SAP. That I am not “getting it,” perhaps that I lack vision, am a terrible person, etc.. However, the issue is not whether I agree with it, as I …

Why SAP HANA Is a Fast Database For Analytics
ByPrimary Researcher April 2, 2016April 6, 2021

… cut through the hyperbole on HANA and provide a basis for analyzing SAP HANA statements.
However, this is, of course, only one dimension of understanding SAP HANA. None of the consulting companies will touch this issue and have served primarily as sales arms of SAP since — well, since they started partnering with SAP. The vast majority of analysts either have a conflict of interest in bringing this up, don’t understand databases well enough to know what part of the SAP HANA story is real and what part is smoke. One perfect example of this inaccuracy that flows through the …

The Art of Blaming the Client When an SAP Project Goes South
ByPrimary Researcher March 13, 2016May 18, 2021

… to is the consulting company, which often issues a similar boilerplate statement, which typically involves a backdoor brag and an IT analyst.
The IT analyst almost always says something convoluted, which seems very carefully crafted to emphasize the process rather than the performance of either the vendor or the implementation partner. This may have something to do with the fact that the vendor and the implementation partner advertise in these publications.

City of San Diego SAP Implementation
An excellent example of this is the City of San Diego’s case and its failed $50 SAP implementation.
The City of San …

Did SAP's ASAP Methodology or RDS Ever Reduce Project Timelines?
ByPrimary Researcher August 24, 2015May 11, 2022

… was SAP was telling them was incorrect and that not only would RDSs not add value, they would result in an unrealistic timeline being created that would never be met.
It is difficult to see the RDSs as anything more than a dishonest attempt on both SAP and their consulting partners to mislead customers into thinking that the implementation duration will be shorter than it will turn out to be.
Who Developed the Idea of the RDS and Why?
The critical thing to remember is that RDSs were not developed by SAP consulting. SAP consulting most likely had a part …

How to Better Estimate the Cost of Forecasting Improvement
ByPrimary Researcher March 31, 2014December 11, 2020

… collaboration being one of the most common types of cooperation.
However, poor forecast accuracy significantly undermines demand collaboration — after all — who wants to use an estimate if it lacks sufficient precision? I have witnessed many companies talk about forecast collaboration — but without once bringing up the issue of the prediction accuracy of their supply chain partners. There is a common belief that the more parties that add to a forecast, the better quality the forecast.
This is not true.
The best approach is to measure the input to the forecasting process of those that contribute and to allow in those

The Brightwork Research & Analysis Rating and Risk for SAP PLM
ByPrimary Researcher January 20, 2014May 7, 2022

… s concerning that SAP executives don’t fundamentally “get” PLM, and this leads them to purchase a CAD/management solution. If one looks at the PLM/BOM Management leaders like Arena Solutions and Hamilton Grant, neither of them are offering a CAD solution; it is simply a different classification of software.
Secondly, SAP has a partnership with Right Hemisphere for some time, and SAP has had enormous problems with PLM, so once one gets past the marketing hyperbole, its difficult to see what has changed with the reboot. SAP had no option here, as their existing “PLM” solution was dead

Both of their designs go back to the mid-1990s, and both products are patterned off of products made by i2 Technologies, which SAP had a partnership within the mid-1990’s.

The Brightwork Research & Analysis Rating and Risk for SugarCRM
ByPrimary Researcher January 20, 2014December 2, 2020

… Microsoft Dynamics CRM. We found it strange that this could be the case since this following quotation was taken from the report on SugarCRM.
A key weakness of the solution, however, is that it provides very limited support for the broader range of CRM capabilities, including analytics, customer data management, partner channel management, eCommerce, and field service.
In one of the most rapidly expanding categories of enterprise software, where the footprint is continually expanding, SugarCRM cannot keep up with the leaders regarding where the category is going. The nice thing is that CRM systems are one of the easiest categories …
